Complex Migrations made easy with Alchemize.

Maxis Technology recently worked with a large government transportation department to migrate six disparate environments from MySQL to Oracle in record time. Our client previously used Red Hat Process Automation Manager (RHPAM) 7 to manage its business processes. Since Red Hat transferred this software to IBM, where it is now offered as IBM Business Automation Manager (BAMOE), and because RHPAM 7 has reached its end of support while our client continued to require vendor support, they needed to perform an upgrade from RHPAM 7 to BAMOE 8. This upgrade also included a database migration from MySQL to Oracle, ensuring all active (in-flight) process instances were preserved and migrated successfully.

Maxis’ role in this project was data migration from MySQL to Oracle using our one-of-a-kind database software, Alchemize, performing the following steps:

  • Schema Discovery: Alchemize analyzed the MySQL schema to identify tables.
  • Mapping & Transformation: Field-level mappings were configured to align MySQL datatypes and structures with Oracle equivalents.
  • Rule & Job Construction: Based on the mappings, Alchemize generated migration rules and execution jobs to govern the data movement. These jobs defined batch sizes, transformation logic, and dependency order to ensure consistency and performance.
  • Data transfer: Alchemize executed the migration jobs in controlled batches, ensuring data integrity and completeness.
  • Validation: Post-migration reconciliation reports confirmed that all process instance data was accurately transferred.

The result: Maxis migrated six environments (POC, PrePROD, LAST, BBQA2, PreFlight PROD, and PROD) from MySQL to Oracle smoothly and accurately while speeding up the multi-data migration process.
